Procedure
Step 1:
Following an IVF cycle, and before the transfer of the blastocyst to the mother’s uterus, our embryologists extract a small number of cells from the outer layer of each embryo (its future placenta) by means of an embryo biopsy and process these cells for genetic analysis. On the same day, the embryos are vitrified in the clinic’s laboratory.
Step 2:
The generic laboratory analyses the chromosomal endowment of each embryo to select those with the correct number of chromosomes. Biopsy results are usually available after about 10 days.
Step 3:
Once our specialists have analysed the results of the biopsy and know which of the embryos will be suitable for transfer, they will proceed with the thawing of one of them and transfer it to the mother’s uterus. The rest of the biopsied and selected embryos will be frozen for possible future use.
